
Keeping Your Bathroom Infrared Heaters Safe (and Dry)
Let’s be real: putting heating lamps in a bathroom is basically like inviting water to mess with your electricity. Between the steam from a hot shower and the general humidity, you’ve got a recipe for current leakage. If you’re building these into mirror assemblies, you can’t afford a “maybe” when it comes to insulation. You need it to be bulletproof so nobody gets a shock while brushing their teeth. Dealing with the Damp Here is the thing about moisture: water vapor loves to conduct electricity. To stop that from happening, we don’t mess around with the materials. We use high-grade quartz glass and ceramic insulators at the terminals. Why? Because those materials stay stubborn. Even when the air is thick with steam, they keep the electricity exactly where it belongs. And a quick tip on the wiring: make sure it’s rated for wet zones. We always use heat-shrink tubing with an adhesive lining at every single joint. It creates a tight, physical seal that locks the moisture out of the live terminals. The Connection Points Most failures happen at the connection point. It’s just where things get messy. That’s why we use reinforced connectors that actually lock the lamp in place. It stops the lamp from wiggling or loosening over time, which is usually how live wires end up exposed. Also, grounding is a non-negotiable. The mirror frame and the heater chassis have to be bonded to a common ground. If something does go wrong and the insulation fails, you want the breaker to trip instantly. You definitely don’t want the mirror surface becoming live. The Balancing Act: Heat vs. Seals Now, here’s the tricky part. If you seal the housing too tight to keep the water out, you trap the heat inside. If it gets too hot, you’ll fry your internal wiring. It’s a bit of a tug-of-war. You need a good IP rating, but you also need the thing to breathe. We usually design the housing so there’s a bit of controlled airflow, while the actual electrical junctions stay tucked away in their own moisture-proof little compartments. That way, the lamp doesn’t burn out, and you stay safe.
